Week 8 : Building In Tight Spaces

After the ground floor was installed, the masons arrived to construct the north wall. Because there is only 18” between the house next door, the wall must have a fire rating. This is not normally difficult except we have no room to work from the outside. To solve this problem, we are building the wall out of red concrete block which provides the fire rating as well as being able to be built from the inside. The masons built the wall in only 2 days and left it at the correct height to match the studs for the rest of the floor. When the framers return, they will install the floor joists on top of the wall, before it is continued on up.
